Report: Xiaomi smartphones push Honor from 2nd place in Sep sales

MOSCOW, Oct 19 (PRIME) -- Xiaomi replaced Honor, a Huawei sub-brand, to the second place by smartphone sales in Russia in units in September, while Samsung led, business daily Vedomosti reported late on October 18, quoting a partner of several electronics makers and market sources.

Huawei was blacklisted by Washington in May 2019, and the Chinese company’s smartphones were left without Google services. Global sales of the company’s smartphones also declined, the daily said.

A source close to a Russian retailer told Vedomosti that inexpensive models Honor 9a, 9c, 9s, released in May, were poorly accepted by the market, and buyers started looking for alternatives.

Retailers and the operators running large chains, like MegaFon, Beeline, Tele2, and Svyaznoy confirmed Xiaomi’s strengthening positions on the local market.

M.Video-Eldorado Group said Xiaomi sales jumped by 90% in units in January–September.

Mobile operator MTS said Xiaomi had 14.9% of the market in July–September, while Samsung had 28.2% and Honor 13.8%.
